20 Unique Atlanta Date Night Ideas
In the realm of relationships, routine can be the sneaky assassin of romance. The dinner-and-a-movie date nights can be comfortable and pleasant, but you have to change it up every now and then. If you’re yearning to break free from the ordinary and inject a dose of excitement into your date nights, you’ve landed in the right place. These are some of my favorite unique Atlanta date night ideas.
1. Fernbank After Dark
Price: $21.95 Admission For Nonmembers During Non-Holiday Season. $34.95 During Holiday Season
Address: 767 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30307
The Fernbank Museum is one of the most impressive museums in the city, and it only gets better at night. Once a month, the museum hosts an adults-only event after the museum has closed where you and your significant other can enjoy alcoholic beverages, gaze at dinosaur bones, and learn about science. Not only that, but they have fun science workshops and a playground for you to unleash your inner child on. There were so many great interactive activities, and we were thoroughly entertained the whole night. I really loved this whole experience, and I can’t recommend it enough.
2. Puttshack
Price: $14 Per Player Per Course
Address: 1115 Howell Mill Road Atlanta, GA 30318
Puttshack is the cool new way to minigolf. Each hole is unique and tech-infused, making the whole game super exciting and fun. They even reinvented the golf scoring system, meaning that now the highest score wins. On top of that, you don’t even have to keep up with your score. The balls themselves track the gameplay, making it a very smooth and entertaining process. While getting a round in, you can sip on some crafted cocktails and snack on some of their tasty menu items. Also, be on the lookout, because they often have some great deals and discounted games!
3. The Roof At Ponce City Market
Price: Adults – $15 Admission
Address: 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30308
You have probably been to Ponce City Market before, but have you ever visited their roof? Atop this elegant shopping center is a carnival-style roof that almost makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. Small rides, carnival games, putt-putt, and even some dining options make it the perfect unique Atlanta date night. While you are having fun, you also get to enjoy spectacular views of the city. To get to the roof, visit the orange ticket booth near the East entrance of the Food Hall. On the weekends, the rooftop is 21+ after 7.
4. Starlight Drive-In Theater
Price: $10 Per Adult
Address: 2000 Moreland Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316
Okay, so maybe you really love your dinner-and-a-movie dates. That’s okay, but have you considered adding a little flare by making it a drive-in movie? Visiting a drive-in theater really makes the whole thing such a different experience. I feel like the generations before mine really got it right with this one. There is just something so cute and cozy about watching a movie from your car. When my boyfriend and I had this date night, we got some Cheesecake Factory kids’ meals and cheesecake to-go for us to enjoy during the movie. It was so fun, and opportunities for this kind of date are dwindling. I recommend you visit the local theater, Starlight Drive-In, and show them some support!
5. Georgia Aquarium: Sips Under The Sea
Price: $61.99 Per Person For Non-Members
Address: 225 Baker St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
Similar to Fernbank After Dark, the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world, has its own late-night 21+ event a few times throughout the year. If you have ever wanted to experience the aquarium without the sounds and stress of children running around, this is the way to do it. All main galleries are open and available for you to explore, and your ticket includes three alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks! I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend their date night looking at the whale sharks?
6. Activities “With A Twist”:
- Painting With A Twist / Price: $30 – $50 Per Person / Locations in Atlanta, Marietta, and Sandy Springs
- The Sipping Plant / Price: $45 / Address: 6450 Roswell Rd suite b, Atlanta, GA 30328
A newer craze that has kind of taken over the dating scene is activities “with a twist”. By this, I mean those classes that teach you how to maybe paint, cook, or create something while you drink alcoholic beverages, the beverages being the twist. As a creative person, I love these kinds of classes! It is so fun to make something with your partner that you get to take home in the end, and having an instructor guiding you along the way makes it super easy! It is important to note that sometimes, you may have to bring your own drinks or purchase them at the event. They are not always included in admission.
7. Rocky Horror Picture Show At Plaza Theater
Price: $15 Per Adult
Address: 1049 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306
Rocky Horror Picture Show is the cult classic of all cult classics. When it was first released in the 1970s, it was met with some negative reviews, but as the right crowd started to find this odd sci-fi musical, it became a classic. It has now become typical for theaters around the world to show this movie with a live cast acting it out in front of the screen. To add to the fun, there is highly encouraged audience participation involving props and callouts. If you’re into the more odd things, like I am, you will love this experience. Plaza Theater does a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show every Friday at 11 pm.
8. The Painted Duck
Price: $0 Entry
Address: 976 Brady Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30318
The Painted Duck is the perfect choice for when you want to feel a little fancy on a budget. With free entry and free games such as lifesize pool, horseshoes, and more, you can easily spend a night here without spending any money. The only game that requires a payment to play is the duckpin bowling. However, you can still have a fun time playing any of the other six free games available. They also have some great food and a huge bar if you feel like eating and grabbing a drink.
9. Attend A Sporting Event
Atlanta is home to several winning teams, impressive venues, and enthusiastic fans that, when put together, can create such a fun and exciting environment. Even if you aren’t into watching sports on TV, attending some of these games in person is truly a whole new ballpark (pun intended). I am not really into sports, but I really love going to these games and just being part of the crowd. Maybe while you’re there, you can even find yourself on one of the many iconic kiss cams.
10. Topgolf
Price: $16 – $62 Per Hour Per Bay
Address: 1600 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30318
Yes, there is another that puts a spin on the game of golf as we know it. Topgolf is a pretty popular spot with locations across the country, but it is still something a lot of people haven’t experienced. Here, your group rents out a bay and pays by the hour to play various versions of golf games. To play, you stand on the dock and hit your golf ball towards the field of targets. The balls have tracking technology and score you based on how close you get to the targets. It can take some getting used to, especially if you aren’t a golfer, but it is still a lot of fun for people of all skill levels.
11. Go To A Concert
Atlanta is known for having one of the best music scenes and being home to some of the most beloved musicians. There are constantly impressive concerts taking place in venues across the city, whether it’s a small show with a local artist or a sold-out performance at Mercedes Benz. Going to concerts has always been something I have loved to do since I was a kid, and it can genuinely make for such a good date night. I love just dancing around with my boyfriend to live music, and I can’t recommend it enough. You can plan for a more personal experience at a smaller venue such as Aisle 5, a more thrilling performance at a larger venue like State Farm Arena, or a night of music under the stars at an amphitheater like Lakewood.
12. Six Flags Over Georgia
Price: $40+ Per Person Per Day
Address: 275 Riverside Pkwy, Austell, GA 30168
For all my theme park lovers out there, if you haven’t visited Six Flags Over Georgia yet, you will have to change that. With lots of thrill rides, excellent theming, and tasty snacks, Six Flags can be the ultimate date night. This is especially true if you visit during Halloween or Christmas when the park is dressed up extra special. I love, love, love rollercoasters, so there were a few times when my friends and I would buy season passes and spend some of our free days during our college years at the park, creating some of my favorite memories.

- 13. Watch a show at Fox Theater
- 14. Trap Music Museum
- 15. Ghost Tour
- 16. Murder Mystery Dinner
- 17. Couples’ Yoga
- 18. Illuminarium

Next time you’re in charge of planning the date night, try to do something outside of the norm. I hope to be updating this list as I continue to discover and go on more unique dates in the future.

Some cool date night ideas. Although diner and a movie remains fun, doing something else is also great. My husband and I love going to museums and they have openings in the evening once in a while, which is special. Would love to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show and to do Puttshack.
