The Layover by Lacie Waldon

Enemies To Lovers | Forced Proximity

📍 Greece

Ava finally has the stability in her life that she has been craving since she was a little girl. She is engaged, living with her fiance, and is about to embark on her last flight as a flight attendant. She is eager to spend a layover in Greece until she realizes she is working her last trip with the annoying Jack Stone with whom she has had a problem for years. Who knows what is going to happen on this trip now?

I really enjoyed reading this one. The characters were fun, the plot was fun, and the setting was fun. It was everything it needed to be. Stories like this always give me unrealistic fantasies of being a flight attendant and traveling for free. This book offers a nice escape, and I love that it was written by an actual flight attendant!

You, With A View by Jessica Joyce

Forced Proximity | Reunion | One Bed

📍 USA Road Trip

Noelle and her grandma were extremely close and told each other all their secrets, or at least she thought. After the passing of her grandma, she finds out that Gram had a secret lover many years ago. Curious to find out who this mystery man is, Noelle creates a TikTok in search of him. Thanks to the video going viral, her questions are answered and she is connected with him. He tells her about how they almost went on a road trip together, and she becomes inspired to take on the trip that never happened. Coming along with her will be her grandma’s secret man and his grandson. However, his grandson happens to be her high school rival, Theo.

This was one of my favorite reads on the list. I thought it was really sweet, and I liked that the characters were very passionate about travel. Some people don’t enjoy when real-world social media is written into books, but as a social media girl, I like it when it is done realistically. I feel like Noelle’s TikTok is really one that could go viral, so I had no issues with it.

One Summer In Santorini by Sandy Barker

Forced Proximity | Love Triangle

📍 Greece

After getting out of a toxic relationship, Sarah decides she is done with men and ready to do what she loves, which is travel. She has planned a trip in which she will spend several days on a yacht sailing around Greece with complete strangers. Her plan of warding off men seems to be underway until she meets Josh, an attractive young American bunking just across the hall. Maybe a little fling won’t hurt? However, things get a little more complicated when she has a run-in with a rich and sophisticated “silver fox” who can promise her a stable relationship.

This book was pretty cute, and after reading it, you will be ready to hop on the next flight to Athens and sail around the Greek Islands, following in Sarah’s footsteps.

Beach Read by Emily Henry

Small-Town Romance | Enemies To Lovers | Forced Proximity

📍 Fictional Town similar to real Michigan beachside towns

Two authors, both stuck in a rut, challenge each other to swap genres and see who can sell a book the fastest. January Andrews, proclaimed romance writer, and Augustus Everett, bestselling author of dark literary fiction, find out they are new neighbors after January moves into her father’s beach house to uncover some family secrets. Over the summer, January and Augustus spend a lot of time learning more about each other, but despite the title of the book, most of that time isn’t actually spent on a beach.

However, this book will still have you yearning for a cozy summer getaway by the water. Maybe even a small town where you befriend the bookstore/coffee shop owner, have some rom-com montages, and learn more about the town’s dark past.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

The Partner Plot by Kristina Forest

Second Chance | Fake Marriage

📍 Las Vegas

Violet and Xavier were high school sweethearts with big dreams of the future. They were supposed to go on to be as much of a power couple in the real world as they were in their school. However, when one of them struggles to make those dreams come true, their relationship crumbles, and they go their separate ways. Several years later, they run into each other in Vegas and do what anyone in Vegas would do, get drunk and get married. When they wake up hungover and with rings on their fingers, they are initially shocked but soon find out that both of their careers could benefit from them saying they are married.

While this book did not have as much travel as I hoped, it was still such a sweet story. The characters were very likable and mature, and I really loved their relationship. Violet’s ambition in the fashion world was also admirable and entertaining to read about. Overall, I truly enjoyed this book despite the Vegas trip being very short.

Part Of Your World by Abby Jiminez

Small-Town Romance | Opposites Attract | Forbidden Romance

📍 Fictional Town based on Lanesboro, Michigan

Alexis, of the rich, famous, and judgemental Montgomery family, has a run-in with Daniel, of the unwealthy but beloved Grant family, when her car breaks down in the small town of Wakan. They are instantly surprised at their amount of chemistry, but a duo like this could never work, right? They come from different worlds, and Alexis’ parents would practically disown her if they found out.

This book will have you wanting to visit a small town you’ve never heard of, stay in a cozy bed and breakfast, and get to know the locals. You will feel inspired to visit the local run-down bar, watch a movie at the drive-in, and maybe even fall in love with a rugged carpenter. If you do feel inspired to visit a Wakan-esque town after reading, this fictional little city is actually based on Lanesboro, Minnesota!

People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry

Friends To Lovers | Opposites Attract

📍 Palm Springs

Despite being polar opposites, Poppy and Alex have been taking a big summer vacation every year since becoming best friends in college. After Poppy takes her dream job as a travel journalist and starts getting sent on company-paid trips, their summer vacations get a major upgrade. That is until two years ago when their vacation to Croatia completely ruined their friendship. Now stuck in a rut, Poppy is desperate to get her friend back the only way she knows how (with a classic Alex and Poppy vacation). However, she can’t help but look at Alex a little differently this time.

This definitely became one of my favorite romance books I’ve ever read. I loved the characters, their relationship, and the fact that Poppy was a travel blogger.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey

Grumpy Sunshine | Fish Out Of Water | Opposites Attract | Small Town Romance

📍 Washington

Piper Bellinger is a famous hot mess from Beverly Hills. She is used to having an endless supply of money, opportunities, and influence. However, when one of her ragers goes too far, her stepdad sends her and her sister to the small town of Westport where they have to manage their father’s old dingy bar. While there, Piper meets Brendan, a gruffy & grumpy sea captain. They couldn’t get on each others’ nerves more, and yet they seem to keep bumping into each other at every turn. Throughout her stay, Piper begins to learn more about herself, the town, her family’s history, and the mysterious captain, Brendan.

This was just your classic opposites-attract love story. I enjoyed the characters and the setting of a small boat town. Being able to walk from your house or hotel to the local harbor seems so dreamy. I’d image you could get a similar experience by visiting certain towns in Maine.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas

Fake Dating | Enemies To Lovers | Office Romance

📍 Spain

Catalina Martín has always had a problem with her grumpy workaholic coworker, Aaron Blackford, since his first day at the office. They just never seem to get along. However, when Catalina is in need of a fake boyfriend for her sister’s wedding in Spain, Aaron becomes her only option, and it quickly becomes apparent that they need each other in more ways than one. Can Catalina convince her family that she and Aaron are in the loving relationship that they expect?

This was actually the first fake dating romance book I’ve read or at least remember reading, and I thought it was a pretty fun one. While the Spain trip is short, only taking up a small percentage of the book, it still has you dreaming of a Spanish getaway to a small town on the coast.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Peter Cabot Gets Lost by Cat Sebastian

Forced Proximity

📍USA Road Trip

After finishing college, Peter Cabot and Caleb Murphy both have a desire to hit the road, and after Caleb receives news that his ride is no longer able to pick him up, Peter offers up a seat in his car. A road trip from Boston to Los Angeles is not short by any means, and Caleb and Peter are not exactly the best of friends. However, after spending more time together in a car and many motel rooms, they find that they could potentially become even more than friends. Oh, also its the 1960s.

I really enjoyed this book. It is one of the few on this list that follows a couple on a good ole fashioned road trip which I love. I really felt like I was on the trip with them. A romance story featuring a gay couple in the 1960s obviously comes with some heavy topics and hard conversations, and I thought it was very well written. The characters were very lovable in my opinion

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Fake Dating | Enemies To Lovers | Forced Proximity

📍 Hawaii

Despite Olive and Ami being twin sisters, they couldn’t be more opposite when it comes to luck. Ami seems to be the luckiest girl in the world, winning every giveaway she enters, getting ready to marry her “perfect” fiancé, Dane, and having a totally free wedding. Olive, on the other hand, has never had something go right. However, things seem to shift when almost everyone at Ami’s wedding, including Ami and Dane, gets food poisoning. The only two people lucky enough to be spared? Olive and her longtime enemy, the brother of the groom, Ethan. With the newlyweds down for the count, Olive and Ethan accept the offer to take their free honeymoon to Hawaii.

This book was super cute and had one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers buildups. It even encouraged me to enter some vacation giveaways in hopes of having that Ami Torres luck. Also, if you loved reading this one, check out the audiobook sequel, The Honeymoon Crashers. It is a fairly short listen and has a full cast of readers with added-in sound effects. I have never listened to a book with this much production, so it was a super fun experience.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult

Fish Out Of Water

📍 Galapagos

Diana, an art seller about to get her big break, and Finn, a surgical resident, are set to go on a romantic getaway to the Galapagos when suddenly the world shifts. A new virus has made its way to America, and Finn feels he should stay back to help with the overwhelming amount of patients at the hospital. However, he feels that Diana should still go on their vacation to the Galapagos, and so she does. As soon as she gets there, the islands are shut down due to the pandemic, and she has no way back home. Fortunately, she is able to befriend a family of locals, including former tour guide, Gabriel. During her time on the island, she learns more about herself and begins questioning her life back home. Maybe everything isn’t as it seems.

This book was unlike any of the others on this list. It probably isn’t the one you should pick if you are looking for an ooey-gooey romance, as this book is more about self-discovery. It also focuses heavily on the pandemic, which may be a stressful topic for some. I enjoyed it for its adventures in the Galapagos, plot twists, and unique story.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

The Paris Connection by Lorraine Brown

Enemies To Lovers

📍 Paris

Hannah and her boyfriend, Simon, are aboard a train heading to Amsterdam for Simon’s sister’s wedding. However, after ending up on different train car than Simon, Hannah accidentally finds herself heading to Paris instead. She is now stuck in Paris with little to none of her belongings. She stumbles upon an annoying, handsome, and familiar face from the train, Leo. It turns out Leo is not where he is supposed to be either. They end up spending the day together while also trying to get on the next train out. Her unusual day in the city leads Hannah to believe her life has not been heading in the right direction despite what she thought before.

Getting stuck in the most romantic city in the world with a handsome Frenchman totally happens to the best of us. Or at least, you might wish it did. This book was a fun easy read about taking risks and falling in love not only with someone else but with yourself as well.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

Seat Mates by Anna Harbom

Enemies To Lovers | Fake Dating | Forced Proximity

📍 Washington D.C.

Daisy is on her way to her mother’s wedding and is dreading every second of it. All this does is remind her of past troubles that consumed her life before. When she is not only seated next to on the plan but staying in the room across the hall from an irritating man named Charlie, it only adds to her already present distress. However, Charlie begins to prove himself useful after offering to be her fake date to her mom’s wedding. Maybe, that will make this whole trip a little more bearable. Or maybe it will just make it worse.

This book is packed with romance and insane family drama that I did not see coming. It was a really entertaining read that will fuel your fantasy that a handsome stranger will one day sit next to you on the plane instead of the loud snorer with no concept of personal space that you usually end up with.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐ /5

You Are Here by David Nicholls

Forced Proximity

📍 Hike Along The English Countryside

Michael and Marnie are both at a less than appealing time in their lives with both of them single and stuck. What better cure is there than to go on a walk? After a mutual friend pushes them to go on a ten day group hike, they find themselves walking along the English country side and forming a connection. However, will what happens on the trail, simply stay on the trail?

I almost didn’t include this book on the list because it is not two people in their early 20s finding love for the first time like almost every other book on this list, but it was one of my favorite reads of 2025. Therefore, I just had to share it. I thought the writing was very charming, and the banter between the two characters was very enjoyable. I really felt like I was on the trip with them, and honestly wish I was.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

As I continue to read more romance books about travel, I will add to this list. If you have any recommendations for me, I would love to hear them! Feel free to also add me on Goodreads so we can keep up with each other’s reads!
