Not Your Typical Travel Bucket List (USA Edition)
I am sure you are very familiar with bucket lists and have seen handfuls of travel ones in your life. If that is the case, then your typical bucket list probably goes a bit like “Visit the Grand Canyon” or “Travel across Europe” which is understandable because who wouldn’t want to do those things? However, what about all the oddities the world has to offer that you don’t get to hear about often or even at all? In this post, I would like to give the weirdest parts of the United States the spotlight that they deserve in what I call “Not Your Typical Travel Bucket List (United States Edition)”
1.) Not Your Typical Hotel: Stay the Night Inside a Potato
Have you ever had the desire to sleep inside of a potato? Probably not, but you can anyways! Called the Big Idaho Potato Hotel, this giant crop is actually an Airbnb, and the inside is surprisingly adorable. Basically, this potato is the perfect example of something you never knew you needed.
Located next door is a silo-turned-spa where you can relax under the stars, so what else could you possibly need? (except a cute, fluffy cow that they also have on site)
2.) Not Your Typical Art Museum: Visit the Museum of Bad Art
You have probably heard of the MoMA in New York City, but what about the MoBA? Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the Museum of Bad Art has some very questionable pieces displayed for your viewing pleasure (or maybe displeasure?). With the tagline “art too bad to be ignored,” this museum seems like the perfect place for a good laugh with your friends.
3.) Not Your Typical Art Installation: Walk Amongst Carhenge
Modeled after the historically famous Stonehenge, the quirky installation “Carhenge” stands proudly in Alliance, Nebraska. This attraction was built in 1987 and is made entirely of old cars and silver spray paint. If you don’t think you can make it to England anytime soon to see the real Stonehenge, maybe make Nebraska your plan B.
4.) Not Your Typical Cemetery: Pay Respects at the Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Graveyard
With over 30 failed ice cream flavors to mourn over, the Ben & Jerry’s Flavor Graveyard is the perfect place to pay your respects (or maybe be a little relieved that you never had to try the flavors yourself). This atypical graveyard located in Vermont is where flavors like Cow Power and Peanuts! Popcorn! went to die. Walking around the small cemetery is totally free, but you can pay to go on a tour and try some ice cream if you would like.
5.)Not Your Typical Museum: Tour the SPAM Museum
Why do we need a SPAM Museum? I am not sure, but Minnesota does have one. If learning all about the history of a canned meat while maybe even trying some of its 15 flavors offered in the gift shop sounds like something you’d enjoy, then this is the perfect destination for you. I personally love unique museums, and I think a visit to the SPAM Museum could be more interesting than it sounds.`
If you know of any more odd attractions across the globe, feel free to share them with me. I hope to make this a fun series.

I remember someone mentioning that potato to me but I had completely forgotten about it. Definitely a really unique thing to add to the US bucket list!
