How To Get To The Bamboo Forest in Sandy Springs, Georgia – The East Palisades Trail
I was pretty surprised when I learned that there is a Bamboo Forest in Sandy Springs, Georgia. It definitely isn’t the first place I would think to have one, but they do! It’s along the Chattahoochee River on the East Palisades Trail.
I was able to visit it recently for the first time, and I have compiled a guide for anyone who wants to add it to their list of things to do in Georgia!
East Palisades Trail Difficulty:
I would say this hike is on the easier side but can be very tiring for beginners. It has a few steep inclines, but they don’t last too long. In all, it is about a 4-mile hike.
I hiked this trail in the middle of a Summer day, so the heat was not on my side. This made the hike a bit more difficult, but luckily the trail is very shaded.
There are lots of little bridges and a few moments where you cross over creeks by stepping on rocks. At each marked section on the trail, there is a map that helps make this hike easy to navigate.
Where is The East Palisades Trail?
The East Palisades Trail has a few different entrances and parking lots, but the main entrance (EP 28 on the map below) is located at 4058 Whitewater Creek Rd NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. This is where I chose to begin my hike.
How To Get To The Bamboo Forest
On the map, The Bamboo Forest can be found at EP 26. To get there, you’ll start at EP 1, which happens to also be a dog park where your pets can swim and run around! I then followed points 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 14, 23, 17, 16, and finally, 26.
Between points 10 and 14 is an overlook where you can view the Chattahoochee River with some city buildings peeking behind the trees. This is a great place to stop, catch your breath, and admire the view.
On the way back from The Bamboo Forest, we chose to make the hike a bit shorter by following points 26, 16, 17, 23, 14, 12, 24, 25, and 1.
The Bamboo Forest
Once you have finally reached your destination, you are met with Bamboo towering over you. It is such a neat experience. This was my first time ever seeing a bamboo forest, so I was surprised both by how tall it was, and how much of it there was.
This is a great chance to take neat pics and chill by the river in a unique environment.

Four miles is such a perfect length for a hike, especially one with so much to see. I’ve always been curious about areas with a lot of bamboo, but I had no idea there were entire bamboo forests!
