North Fields Coffee and Chocolate Tour Review – La Fortuna, Costa Rica

When planning my first ever trip to Costa Rica, I knew that tasting and learning about their coffee and chocolate was a high priority. I searched through several tour offerings before I chose North Fields as the one I would go on. Multiple factors went into this decision such as cost, tour length, customer reviews, and company reputability.

What You Will Get From The North Fields Tour

It is always important when going on a tour in any destination, that you feel like you are actually learning and experiencing something unique. With North Fields, you learn about the process of making some of the most delicious coffee and chocolate from seed to finished product. There were even a few interactive parts of the tour where we got to get our hands on some of the machinery. Our tour guide, Rosbi did an amazing job making the tour both educational and fun. I’d honestly do it again.

Along the way you get to try the crops in different stages of life as well as in different forms of tasty treats. Examples of the samples provided were hot chocolate, 100% dark chocolate, tea, coffee, coffee beans, sugar cane, and even the slimy inside of a cacao pod. This was one of the few tours I found offering both chocolate and coffee as opposed to one or the other.

North Fields Coffee and Chocolate Tour Cost and Booking Process

I booked the North Fields Coffee and Chocolate Tour through Trip Advisor which seemed to be the most simple and straightforward way to do it. On the North Fields website, there is also a form you can fill out to book a tour, but I am not sure what happens after the form is sent in. At my time of booking, the tour cost $43 per person.

North Fields Coffee and Chocolate Tour Length

The coffee and chocolate tour typically takes between 2 and 3 hours. This can vary depending on questions asked, weather, sample preparation, etc. Therefore, make sure you are able to fit this into your schedule and plan accordingly.

North Fields Reputability

One of the things that drew me to North Fields was that it started out as a small family project. This was apparent during the tour as you could tell that a lot of love and care has gone into this business. The staff was also super friendly and informative at all times. Due to Costa Rica’s unpredictable weather, they even offered umbrellas for us to use in case of rain. At the main building, WIFI and water are also offered which was much appreciated.

Final Thoughts

Is this the best coffee/chocolate tour in Costa Rica? Yes. Have I tried out other coffee or chocolate tours in Costa Rica? No.

This tour ended up being one of the major highlights of our trip. Everything about it was excellent even if I did have a bit of a stomach ache after from consuming so much coffee and chocolate. If you’re on the fence about going on a tour or don’t know which one to go on, take this as a sign that you should experience the North Fields Coffee and Chocolate Tour in La Fortuna, Costa Rica.
