Best Things To Do For Halloween Around Atlanta

Looking for the best things to do for Halloween in Atlanta? Every October, when the leaves change and the air cools, the Metro Atlanta area transforms into a festive playground of haunted houses, ghost tours, family-friendly festivals, bar crawls, and more. It is my favorite time of year, which is why I was excited to create a list of some of the best spooky things to do in and around the city.

Metro Atlanta Haunted Houses

If you are someone who loves a good scare, then you are probably on the hunt for some haunted houses around Atlanta. Thankfully, there are quite a few to choose from.

Netherworld Haunted House

The most popular haunted house in Atlanta is probably Netherworld, which has some of the best special effects, theming, and live actors that you are going to find. The entire attraction is huge with multiple houses, escape rooms, and even a monster museum. Tickets start at $25 and go up based on demand and add-ons, so be sure to reserve your spot in advance for the best deal. Netherworld should definitely be on your Atlanta Halloween bucket list (if you dare).

Folklore Haunted House

Another great haunted house, located a bit outside the city, iFolklore Haunted House in Acworth, Georgia. Although I have not experienced this attraction during Halloween, I did visit their Valentine’s Day haunted house, which was a good time. During spooky season, they offer both a haunted house and a haunted maze, as well as some carnival games and a casket ride! Tickets to the two haunted attractions start at $28 and go up based on demand and add-ons.

Six Flags Over Georgia Fright Fest

One of the only reasons I used to buy Six Flags Season Passes was because I looked forward to Fright Fest every year. From mid-September to early November, nighttime at the park looks a little different than usual. You will find festive decor and music at every corner, as well as scare actors, live shows, and haunted houses. Nothing gets your heart pumping like doing a few loops on a roller coaster and then immediately getting jump scared around the corner of a spooky maze. To enter haunted houses, you do have to buy an attraction ticket in addition to the park entry ticket. In total, a ticket to both starts at $69 and goes up based on demand and add-ons.

Burt’s Pumpkin Farm

Obviously, at some point during Fall, you have to visit a pumpkin patch, whether to pick out the perfect pumpkin to carve or just get a few cute photos amongst the patch. One of the most impressive places to get these two done is Burt’s Pumpkin Farm in Dawsonville, Georgia. Yes, this is a haul from Atlanta, but it is well worth the drive, especially if you can add on a little visit to Amicalola Falls afterwards. On weekends, you can also go on a hayride at the pumpkin patch for $6.50 per person. Does this not sound like the perfect Fall day?

Halloween Theming At Popular Atlanta Attractions

Some of your favorite classic Atlanta attractions offer Halloween-themed days/nights to get in the spirit. While you have probably visited these places a handful of times (especially if you are a local like me), have you ever visited them like this?

Fernbank After Dark – Halloween + Fernbank Museum Fright Night

Once a month, the Fernbank Museum hosts a 21+ only event after normal museum hours. During October, Fernbank After Dark takes on a special Halloween theme, where you can expect hands-on activities, live music, a full bar, and educational fun. On the actual night of Halloween, the museum hosts a Fright Night party where you can dance amongst the dinosaurs. Tickets to both events are $23.95 each, which is less than a normal general admission ticket!

Georgia Aquarium – Haunted Seas

One of Atlanta’s most prized gems is the Georgia Aquarium, home to impressive underwater creatures such as whale sharks, dolphins, and manta rays. From early October to Early November, visitors to the aquarium can experience Halloween-themed shows as well as immersive trick-or-treating stations. This makes for the perfect family-friendly Halloween experience in the city. Tickets to the aquarium start at $44.49.

Atlanta Botanical Gardens – Scarecrows In The Garden

Atlanta Botanical Gardens is one of the most beautiful places in the city, with gorgeous plant collections and impressive greenhouses, and as the leaves start to turn in the fall, you will find that the gardens take on a new charm. In addition to the spectacular foliage, scarecrows decorated by the community will be lining the paths for your viewing. It is so fun and wholesome to see how creative people can get with this exhibition. Tickets to the gardens start at $27.95 with prices increasing in-person and on the weekends.

Atlanta Ghost Tours

One of my favorite ways to learn about a new city is through a ghost tour because you get a mix of real history and personal ghost stories. This year, I went on a US Ghost Adventures ghost tour around Marietta Square, where I learned all about Marietta’s history with railroads, fires, and war, as well as which buildings go bump in the night. It was such a fun activity, and the tour guide was great. US Ghost Adventures offers tours around the country, including Atlanta, which I have not experienced, but I hope to soon! If you book a tour through them, use code ALEX10 for 10% off!

Atlanta Rocky Horror Picture Show

I cannot make a list of things to do for Halloween in Atlanta without mentioning Rocky Horror Picture Show! The historical Plaza Theatre offers 11 PM showings of the movie with a great shadowcast every Friday night throughout the year. There is no movie experience quite like Rocky Horror Picture Show, as audience participation is highly encouraged. You might be able to find other showings at different theatres around Georgia during the Halloween season, some with no shadowcast and some with more audience props and participation. Last year, I went to a showing at The Strand in Marietta Square, so be on the lookout there if it is near you!

Atlanta Bar Crawls And Pop Ups

On Halloween night, lots of bars across Atlanta participate in bar crawls. What could be more fun than dressing up in silly costumes with your friends, walking around the city, and getting a few drinks? To find these bar crawls, check sites such as Eventbrite or check to see if your favorite bar is participating in any.

Another way businesses join in on the fun during the holiday season is by having themed pop-ups. Some popular ones are The Wicked Pig, Amore è Amore, and Rreal Tacos. There are many, many more, so be on the lookout!

Local Metro Atlanta Halloween Festivals

Whether you live OTP or ITP, there will probably be some kind of Halloween festival near you during the month of October. A lot of these festivals are family-friendly and are a great way to have fun with your community. Examples: Little 5 Points Halloween Festival And Parade, Spooky Springs in Sandy Springs, and Smyrna’s Spooky Festival.
