5 Free Things To Do In Atlanta, Georgia
As a college student that lives next door to Atlanta, I have become an expert on how to have fun in the ATL while avoiding spending my money. While Atlanta does have a lot of neat experiences that are worth the money, it is possible to have a good time for free, and as I get older, that gets more and more appealing. Here is a list of my 5 favorite free things to do in Atlanta, Georgia.
1.) Jackson Street Bridge
View from Jackson Street Bridge
Thankfully, one of the best viewpoints of Atlanta’s skyline comes at no cost to you, as it is simply a bridge. I have gone to Jackson Street Bridge numerous times to watch sunsets and take pictures, and it is always on my list of places to take my friends when they come to visit me. It is not the easiest place to find parking, but nowhere in Atlanta really is. This is definitely a must-see when you come to the city.
2.) Visit Filming Locations In Atlanta, Georgia
Over the years, Atlanta has become a popular location to film some of the biggest movies and TV shows. Marvel has used Atlanta to film a majority of its productions, Stranger Things’ “Hawkins, Indiana” is, in reality, Atlanta, and The Walking Dead has used Atlanta as the background of the zombie apocalypse! You can easily visit most of your favorite sets for free and get a neat photo while you’re there. Not everyone can say that they have visited Hawkins Middle School, so seize that opportunity and leave with a great story to tell people.
3.) The High Museum (Free On Every Second Sunday)
The High Museum has become one of my favorite attractions in Atlanta, and I have never even had to pay for it. In order to make your visit to The High Museum a free one, you just have to get tickets for the second Sunday of the month. The only downside to this is that it can be a little crowded on these days. However, that has never stopped me from having a pleasant experience. The High Museum has a wide range of really neat exhibits, including some that get changed every few months. Therefore, if you have been to this museum before, it is really easy to go again and again and see something new each time.
4.) Hike Stone Mountain in Atlanta, Georgia
While Stone Mountain Park requires a paid ticket, you can still hike Stone Mountain for free. With this, you just do not get access to the park attractions, and you are not able to see Stone Mountain from the front. I think this is a great hike with some of the best views around, and it is pretty moderate at around 2 miles roundtrip. What can make the hike difficult is that it gets rather steep, and it is all basically a very rocky terrain. However, I think once you get to the top, it all becomes worth it. Just make sure you are prepared to hike.
5.) Ponce City Market / The Beltline
If you have some self-control and can avoid spending money, then Ponce City Market is a neat place to walk around and spend some time. It is a pretty pricey shopping center, but if you love window shopping as much as me, then it is an ideal attraction. If you want to maybe allow yourself to spend a few bucks, then it can be worth it to buy a coffee and walk around or sit and people-watch.
If the weather is nice, Ponce City Market has great outdoor seating areas to chill at, or you can start walking The Beltline. The Beltline is an artsy area of Atlanta with great places to walk, eat, and get a drink. However, since you are trying to not spend any money in this case, then it is just a great place to get in your steps. The art along The Beltline changes every now and then, and there is a nice park you can stop at to have a little picnic, throw a frisbee, or even bring out your skateboard to use at the skatepark.

Yesss, I love free things in cities/towns! The bridge would be a fun spot to overlook Atlanta, and I love art so the museum is definitely on my list.
