What To Bring To Music Midtown 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia

Update: On May 8, 2024, Music Midtown announced the festival will be going on hiatus. There will be no Music Midtown in 2024. The reason for the hiatus has not been announced but as a fan of the festival, I hope it returns soon. In the meantime, this list can be used to find useful products for other music festivals. Just double-check that they are in compliance with regulations as rules change festival to festival.

It’s that wonderful Music Midtown time of year, and if you’re planning on attending for the first time, you might be wondering what to bring to a music festival like this one. Thankfully, I have 2 years of Music Midtown under my belt, so I can tell you exactly what to bring and what to leave at home.

Health and Safety at Music Midtown

Health and protection is the most important thing to keep in mind always. Music Midtown takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, towards the end of the summer season, which means UV indexes will be high, and the heat won’t be a joke.

1. Sunscreen

Therefore, you will need to bring your favorite non-aerosol sunscreen or apply some before you head to the park. My personal favorite brand is Sun Bum. They have a great face sunscreen that doesn’t make your face feel icky, and it has a nice tan tint to it. They also have some highly appraised sunscreen lotion that you can bring with you into the park. Sun Bum is one of my favorite brands also because they are eco-friendly!

2. Empty Water Bottle

Outside food and beverages are not allowed inside Music Midtown, but you can bring your own empty water bottle. Whether it’s a plastic water bottle that you already drank the water out of or a reusable water bottle, I recommend just bringing something to fill up with water. Otherwise, you will be paying a lot of money for the water sold in the park. The most convenient option would be to bring a collapsable water bottle that can easily fit in your bag when it’s empty.

3. Hand Sanitizer

You won’t be finding many opportunities to wash your hands at Music Midtown, so I would highly recommend bringing your own personal-sized hand sanitizer. It is important to keep your hands clean to prevent you from getting sick, especially when in large crowds.

4. Mini Portable Fan

Lastly, for safety, you might want to consider bringing a mini portable fan. Of course, this isn’t necessary, but it may come in handy if you are someone who gets hot easily.

Bags at Music Midtown

Music Midtown does have a bag policy similar to bag policies at other major events, so if you are a common attendee of music festivals, sports events, and other places with large crowds, you may already have just the bag you need.

5. Fanny Pack

According to the Music Midtown bag policy, you can have small bags and fanny packs up to 6″ x 9″. I can’t recommend fanny packs enough, especially if you are not planning on bringing a lot with you to the festival. Not only are fanny packs great because they are worn on the front of your body, making them a bit more anti-theft, but they are also so convenient and comfortable. Plus, they can make a cute addition to your outfit.

6. Clear Bags

If you want to bring something a bit bigger with you to Music Midtown, it will have to be a clear bag. However, don’t worry; clear bags can still make a cute addition to an outfit. It is important to note that clear bags will have to be under 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or else you won’t be able to bring them in.

Comfortability at Music Midtown

7. Blanket or Towel

There isn’t any seating at music festivals, especially if you have general admission tickets. Therefore, you will be sitting on the grass whenever you need to rest your legs. If this bothers you, you might want to bring a blanket or towel to sit on.

8. Portable Charger

I am going to lump portable chargers in with comfort because I feel most comfortable when I know I don’t have to worry about my phone dying on me. If you are like me and love to take lots of pictures and videos at music festivals, then you should really consider bringing a portable charger with you. Much like washing your hands, there aren’t a lot of opportunities to charge your phone at Music Midtown. Plus, you don’t want to waste your time sitting next to an outlet when you could be enjoying some live music.

Extra Fun at Music Midtown

9. Disposable Camera / Film Camera

I brought a film camera with me to the most recent Music Midtown, and I had such a good time taking pictures that I wouldn’t be able to see til later. If you’re into photography or just enjoy capturing memories through a more unique lens, I would recommend bringing either a disposable camera or film camera with you just to add to the fun. Plus, you can’t bring any professional cameras with you, so this is a great way to be able to still take pictures that aren’t the typical ones on your phone

What To Wear To Music Midtown

Everyone loves to get dressed up for a music festival, but there does come a point when you are too dressed up! I LOVE music festival fashion and how unique it can be, but I personally never let that stop me from being comfortable. Half of the people who wear cool but uncomfortable shoes end up walking around barefoot before the day is over. I promise that it is possible to dress up without sacrificing your comfort, and I really think you should make that your goal.

Lastly, just remember to bring a positive attitude and a music-loving spirit. It might be hot, crowded, loud, and possibly rainy, so it is important to remember to keep your spirits high. You will be outside for a long time, and if you want your money spent to be worth it, you will just have to push through any uncomfortablity and have fun! Music Midtown is such a great music festival, and I am so excited that you will be attending. For any other tips, check out my Music Midtown Survival Guide.
